Sun quincunx: The hardest thing is to fight an enemy while remaining a peaceful person. This aspect produces in the planet’s spheres an effect of certain inadequacy in the person’s volitional impulses, noticeable to attentive surroundings and, at a certain level of self-awareness, to the individual himself—though it will be difficult for others to articulate precisely what is wrong, and difficult for him to understand. Similarly, external imperative situations in the planet’s spheres will present the person with certain difficulties, each of which he could overcome somehow if he wished, but when the quincunx is afflicted, this may seem exhausting (while with harmonious aspects, it may appear attractive). This aspect indicates external intervention of cosmic will within the planet’s spheres, as well as attempts to integrate it through the person’s own individual will. Until he begins to recognize (within the planet’s spheres) the cosmic signature in both external imperative circumstances and his own volitional impulses, and until he learns to perceive and respond adequately to both, they will considerably perplex and partially disturb him. Generally, in the areas of a quincunx, a person (except at a very high level of integration) experiences difficulties related to the emergence of cosmic, i.e. non-human, influences and ethics. In this case, however, the effect is especially acute, because it is difficult even to admit that one’s will is under the influence of the cosmic, as would be the case with a Sun semi-sextile, but even more so when one must combine it with personal initiative and creative effort. At a low level, with an afflicted Sun, the person will tend to evade the small pebbles occasionally flying his way in the planet’s spheres; with a well-aspected Sun, he will likely experience passive satisfaction—something like the sensation of vibrations from a fast train on the upper bunk of a soft railway carriage. Upon sudden braking, one might fall down, but the bones will remain intact. Moon quincunx: What prevents a person from sensing God through the senses? Atheism. This individual will struggle to understand certain inner feelings, emotions, and physical states within the planet’s spheres. The cosmos grants him the ability to sense its vibrations emotionally and physically in these areas, but this requires a certain inner tuning and purity—specifically, of the physical and astral bodies. At a low level, this may manifest as ordinary earthly circumstances in the planet’s spheres barely affecting the person emotionally, which may trouble him, as he may consider himself abnormal or deprived by fate. Yet attempts to experience the same emotions as others will end in failure and emotional collapse. The proper approach, on the contrary, lies in eliminating coarse emotions and physical excesses within the planet’s spheres and carefully attuning oneself to (the only ones truly satisfying for the individual) cosmic vibrations, subjectively perceived as transpersonal, abstract, etc. For example, a Moon-Venus quincunx produces a person for whom ordinary social and sexual relationships do not bring deep satisfaction—they merely skim the surface of his feelings, and this is as it should be: in social interaction (and especially in love) he is attuned to subtle cosmic vibrations, and all his attempts to be “like everyone else” and to profane these higher vibrations will result in nausea and inner revolt, sowing despair, sorrow, and protest within his soul—understanding the true causes of which will be quite difficult for him. Mastery of the Moon quincunx grants a subtle, instinctive attunement to cosmic radiations within the planet’s spheres (a cosmic medium)—a person who can give much to others, provided he succeeds in internally, subconsciously accepting cosmic ethics in these areas; this, however, always implies enormous sacrifices on the part of the ego.
