Sun quincunx: The hardest thing is to fight an enemy while remaining a peaceful person. This aspect produces in the planet’s spheres an effect of certain inadequacy in the person’s volitional impulses, noticeable to attentive surroundings and, at a certain level of self-awareness, to the individual himself, although they will find it difficult to articulate precisely what it is, and he will struggle to understand it. Similarly, external imperative situations in the planet’s spheres will present the individual with certain difficulties, each of which he could overcome somehow if he wished, but when the quincunx is afflicted, this may seem exhausting (while with harmonious aspects, it may appear attractive). This aspect signifies external intervention of cosmic will within the planet’s spheres, as well as attempts to integrate it through the individual’s personal will. Until the person begins to recognize the cosmic signature both in external imperative circumstances and in his own volitional impulses within these spheres, and learns to respond to them adequately, both will considerably perplex and partially disturb him. Generally, in the areas of a quincunx, the individual (except at a very high level of integration) experiences difficulties related to the emergence of cosmic, i.e. transpersonal, influences and ethics. In this case, however, it manifests particularly acutely, because it is difficult even to acknowledge that one’s will is under the influence of the cosmic, as would be the case with a semi-sextile of the Sun, but even more so when combining it with one’s own initiative and creative efforts. At a low level, when the Sun is afflicted, the person will tend to evade the small pebbles occasionally flying toward him in the planet’s spheres, whereas with a well-aspected Sun, he will likely experience passive pleasure, akin to feeling the vibrations of a fast train while lying on the upper bunk of a soft carriage; upon sudden braking, one might fall down, but the bones will remain intact. Venus quincunx: A good artist strives to bring divine love to people, a bad one—to himself. This aspect produces a significantly more painful awareness, compared to the semi-sextile, of the difference between social and generally earthly ethics and aesthetics versus cosmic ones, while both will be seemingly independently present in the person’s subconscious within the planet’s spheres. Their karmic task will be to reconcile them, which requires the individual first to renounce the planet’s sphere from a cosmic perspective, and only then to judge earthly matters. At a low level, the person lacks the strength and wisdom for this, and in his ethics and aesthetics there is a strange mixture of earthly and cosmic elements, which he cannot sort out himself, sometimes partially disturbing him. At a medium level, however, strong inner conflicts are possible, since earthly bumps turn out to be avoidable only with the help of jabs from cosmic ski poles, which may seem to the person insufficiently proper or even impossible from the standpoint of social ethics, whose boundaries now appear clearly too narrow, yet to abandon them seems premature and unsettling. For example, the quincunx Venus-Mars will bring specific social problems related to aggression—external, internal, and hidden—and the person will encounter situations where, according to earthly ethics, one must resist evil with force, but not with the force the person possesses, rather with a much higher vibrational level, and this he will need to carry throughout life.
