Sun quincunx: The hardest thing is to fight an enemy while remaining a peaceful person. This aspect produces in the areas of the Planet an effect of certain inadequacy in the person’s volitional impulses, noticeable to attentive surroundings and, at a certain level of self-awareness, to the individual himself, although they will find it difficult to articulate precisely what it is, and he will struggle to understand it. Similarly, external imperative situations in the Planet’s spheres will present certain difficulties for the person—each of which he could overcome somehow if he wished—but when the quincunx is afflicted, this may seem exhausting (while with harmonious aspects, it may appear attractive). This aspect signifies external intervention of cosmic will in the Planet’s spheres, as well as attempts to integrate it through the individual’s personal will. Until the person begins to recognize, within the Planet’s spheres, the cosmic signature in both external imperative circumstances and in his own volitional impulses—and learns to respond adequately to both—these factors will considerably perplex and partially disturb him. Generally, in the areas of a quincunx, the individual (except at a very high level of integration) experiences difficulties related to the emergence of cosmic, i.e. transpersonal, influences and ethics. In this case, however, the effect is especially acute, because it is difficult even to admit that one’s will is under the influence of the cosmic, as would be the case with a semi-sextile of the Sun, but even more so when combining it with one’s own initiative and creative efforts. At a low level, with an afflicted Sun, the person will tend to evade the small pebbles occasionally flying toward him in the Planet’s spheres; with a well-aspected Sun, he may passively enjoy a sensation akin to feeling the vibrations of a fast train on the upper bunk of a soft railway carriage; upon sudden braking, one might fall down, but the bones will remain intact. Mars quincunx: The power of evil is obvious; the power of good can be assessed by the indirect sign that evil has not yet completely triumphed. This aspect creates in the Planet’s spheres a problem of interaction between energy on earthly and cosmic vibrations. At a low level, the person will often lack earthly forms of energy, while poorly mastering cosmic energies, resulting in certain breakdowns. For example, a Mars-Moon quincunx may grant a healer’s talent masked by abilities in ordinary linear massage, which, however, the person will perform in a somewhat unusual manner—particularly, their hands may move almost by themselves in critical situations, provided they can learn to trust them. The latter, however, is by no means simple, since the subconscious (both personal and collective) generally distrusts intuition, let alone movements accompanied by unusual energetic vibrations. The Mars quincunx poses in the Planet’s spheres the issue of the level of active energy, implying, in particular, the necessity of precisely choosing its forms and no less precise control over one’s inner energetics, since the quincunx emphasizes the cosmic unacceptability of coarse emotional states and mere instinctual energy expressions. For instance, with a Venus-Mars quincunx, relatively crude yet socially fully adequate expressions of love will prove entirely unacceptable from a cosmic perspective, which the Cosmos will make known to the person—sometimes through rather peculiar methods. In any case, the person will eventually become convinced that in love, he must be extremely cautious, and celebrated, yet not overly cautious, and celebrated. Upon proper integration—primarily requiring viewing the beloved as a spiritual being—the person will prove capable of very intimate, subtle, and deep relationships and interactions.
