Moon quintile: Bream, zander, and roach are equally necessary for evolution, yet for some reason bream tastes better. This aspect imparts inner liveliness and intrinsic interest in the areas governed by the planet, evoking in the individual a genuine emotional response and an impulse toward inner development in a new direction. The Moon’s affliction bestows great vital forces within the planet’s domains, which, however, struggle to manifest outwardly, likely resulting in frustrations akin to a poplar tree whose branches are pruned each spring—and even a good portion of its trunk. If this aspect remains unworked, instinctive vitality degenerates, becoming coarser and even vulgar; an unrefined Moon is a master at profaning anything whatsoever. For example, the Moon-Venus quintile at a high level grants authentic, living art created instinctively by the individual, essentially an extension of their life; when people perceive this art, on one hand they recognize themselves and the surrounding world, and on the other, they see it illuminated by significantly higher vibrations (Venus—of aesthetics), and by intuitively (Moon) connecting to this stream, they illuminate their inner and outer world, primarily. At a low level, this quintile signifies perceiving any living loving or social relationships solely from the standpoint of physiology and self-interest, for instance, a position such as: “if a person doesn’t spend money on me and doesn’t want to sleep with me, the relationship is pointless.” Mars quintile: Manifest life force stands in inverse relation to its evolutionary level. At a low level and with Mars afflicted, this aspect (especially with Mars in the 8th house) may produce sadistic pleasure from the suffering of a living being parting with life; but these are extreme cases, and usually the Mars quintile still somewhat softens its aggression, making the individual actively interested in the specific expressions of life within the planet’s spheres and inclined toward energetic overcoming of backward internal and external conditions in these areas. A strongly emphasized Mars quintile to the Moon or Sun may generate a constant interest in biology; if Mars or the planet is in the 6th or 12th house, activity in animal protection is possible, and so forth. Affliction of the quintile brings clumsy personal expressions of vitality and external blows against it, and lack of development leads to painful complexes. For instance, the Mars-Saturn quintile gives a person at a moderate level of development a sense of inability to harm any living being, along with personal vulnerability to external aggression, yet still considerably less than the individual perceives and than, for example, with a Mars-Saturn square. The quintile is nonetheless a harmonious aspect, and if not severely afflicted, it provides a certain degree of protection to the individual, at least when they feel and act as a defender of life. At a low level, this aspect inclines toward a primitive understanding of life expressions, primarily as food-gathering and sexual instincts; at a high level, the ability emerges for subtle support of life expressions and their deep penetration into difficult, backward forms.
