Venus quintile: When there is no love in life, there is no life at all. This aspect brings liveliness to the planet’s spheres in social interactions and aesthetic preferences, along with spontaneity in expressions of love. In these areas, the individual will be suffocated by the routine and backwardness typical of society as a whole. Thus, even a minor affliction of Venus creates difficulties in social contacts: on one hand, liveliness and spontaneity in others will attract them, while on the other, their own expressions may appear less vibrant and more awkward. A strong affliction of Venus may lead to psychological blocks and complete rejection of any spontaneous behavior. At a low level, the Venus quintile produces a socially stereotyped attitude toward expressions of life in oneself and others, along with a tendency to parasitize on such expressions in social situations of the outer world—especially if the individual has low energy levels. Examples include many educators who feed (often with sadistic elements) on the emotions and spontaneous energetic expressions of children and teenagers. Similarly, lower-octave art critics play an analogous role, representing parasitic existence. Harmonious aspects to the quintile bring appreciation from others for natural liveliness and creative initiative in the planet’s spheres—yet only with careful development. Neptune quintile: The River of Life, flowing into the ocean of Universal Love, begins in the swamp of Compassion. This aspect imparts vitality to meditation and, at a high level, genuine understanding of the planetary principle and all its manifestations. At a low level, especially when the quintile is afflicted, the individual will be interested in and active primarily in parasitic forms of life connected with deception, false positions, and secret use of others’ life force within the planet’s spheres. When Neptune is afflicted, the person may develop a tendency toward the lowest forms of life present in this backward manifestation, defending them to the detriment of others. Here, work is carried out primarily in the inner world, and sometimes the individual must sink to the very bottom of the corresponding puddle to renounce the pleasures of dirty life (which they oppose to pure non-vitality), although occasionally half its depth suffices. The key is not to close one’s eyes to what is actually happening. A characteristic feature here is a subconscious sense of guilt before life in the planet’s spheres, which the person attempts to suppress or clumsily compensate for. Affliction of the planet under harmonious Neptune produces the rose-colored glasses effect: the person is happy with any manifestation of life in the planet’s spheres and finds it difficult to distinguish low from high, or to understand their combinations at all. Thus, they may end up in unpleasant situations, trying to protect what should not be protected, from those from whom protection is unnecessary. A harmonious quintile brings mystical fascination with the life of the planetary principle, combined with a certain passivity and a tendency to parasitize upon it. At a high level, it bestows the ability to detect life under incredible conditions and to assist its development.
