Venus quintile: When there is no love in life, there is no life at all. This aspect brings liveliness to the planet’s spheres of social contacts and aesthetic preferences, as well as spontaneity in love. In these areas, the individual will be suffocated by the routine and backwardness typical of society as a whole; thus, even a minor affliction of Venus creates difficulties in social interactions: on one hand, liveliness and spontaneity in others will attract them, while on the other, their own expressions may seem less vibrant and more awkward. A strong affliction of Venus may lead to psychological blocks and complete rejection of any spontaneous behavior. At a low level, the Venus quintile produces a socially stereotyped attitude toward expressions of life in oneself and others, and a tendency to parasitize on such expressions in social situations of the external world—especially if the individual has low energy levels. Examples include many educators who feed (often with sadistic elements) on the emotions and spontaneous energetic expressions of children and teenagers. Similarly, lower-octave art critics play an analogous role, representing parasitic existence. Harmonious aspects to the quintile bring appreciation from others for natural liveliness and creative initiative in the planet’s spheres—yet only with careful development. Saturn quintile: Asceticism is the desire to focus on one way of life. This aspect often brings an interested yet skeptical attitude toward life’s manifestations in the planet’s spheres. Deep inside, the person strongly desires growth and flourishing, yet simultaneously perceives numerous obstacles, doubts success, and yet awaits it—becoming deeply saddened by life’s failures and victories of stagnation, though never missing an opportunity to say, “I told you nothing good would come of these endeavors.” However, this individual becomes a suppressor of life’s expressions in the planet’s spheres only at the lowest level of quintile and Saturn integration, especially under strong affliction resulting from deep traumas inflicted upon their vulnerable life-affirming sensitivity. Usually, this aspect softens Saturn’s rigidity, providing beneath an outward strictness and discipline a desire to preserve life within the expressions of the planetary principle and to allow it room for development. When Saturn is afflicted, the person will hold overly certain and dogmatic views on exactly how this life should be, and precisely how it should animate the forms in which it arises. With harmonious development, they will know how and when to support this life, though they will often be too lazy to do so. Here, proper integration brings deep understanding of what occurs within stagnant forms (especially the harshest and most difficult ones, such as mathematical and metal structures) when life begins to emerge within them, as well as insight into the developmental prospects of these specific manifestations, and knowledge of which forms require assistance—and which do not (an afflicted Saturn without proper integration may suffocate life instead).
