Mars semi-square: The sledgehammer of official ideology does not so much shatter as it compacts subversive thoughts of citizens. In the areas ruled by the Planet, the individual has limited means for expressing their activity, although this is not immediately obvious. If one manages to find a combination of these means convenient for one’s purposes, the effect can be excellent; more often, however, the person will feel a certain discomfort, the causes of which remain a complete mystery to them at low and medium levels of development. For example, the Mercury-Mars semi-square produces poor coordination of movement, yet some individual motions may be perfect, and with effort, by combining them, a person might even achieve success in certain sports, although becoming a champion with this aspect is difficult. A person with an unprocessed Moon-Mars square will be crude in personal perception and expression, sensitive, harsh, and generally difficult to deal with, as long as they demand that external reality adapt to them; whereas when they set themselves the goal of serving reality, gradually they will gain broad channels for self-expression and constructive activity, though initially they will, of course, be awkward—yet here sincerity and selflessness will greatly mitigate the difficulties. At a low level, especially with strong energetic activation, the person tends to subjugate the world in the planet’s spheres to their own (perfectly certain) ideas about how these spheres should be, and resistance to this can be very difficult. For instance, the Mars-Mercury semi-square (particularly if well-aspected) gives great cunning and agility, which at first glance may appear as wisdom or intelligence. Uranus semi-square: Real difficulties begin when the person ceases to suit their own concept. At a high level of development, this aspect grants in the planet’s sphere inventiveness in assembling structures from ready-made blocks, and the person will have the most unexpected and sometimes brilliant ideas, yet ultimately the house they design and build will be comfortable and cozy for other people only if the individual carefully considers their wishes, because from their own point of view the house will still turn out lifeless, even if original in construction. For example, a person with a Moon-Uranus semi-square and Uranus in the 6th house might devise an excellent system of physical exercises or techniques of self-control, relaxation, etc., which gives only an external, superficial effect for themselves, but proves highly effective and meaningful for others, and it is precisely toward others that they should orient themselves in developing it. At a low level, this aspect produces in the planet’s spheres fixation on rigid whims and caprices which the person cannot explain, yet which are obligatory for them, often hurting both those around them and themselves. Such signs should be paid attention to, but correctly interpreting them will be difficult; there is particular danger of dogmatic and straightforward interpretations, especially when the semi-square is afflicted, which may escalate into obsession.
