Sun sesquiquadrate: It is not enough for a person to fulfill divine will; he must also believe it to be his own. This aspect makes the individual’s will in the planet’s spheres an insufficiently refined, sometimes overly crude instrument. His initiatives often turn out to be too direct (if the Sun is in Pisces or Cancer, the person will tend to avoid responsibility too openly and often awkwardly, hiding within his shell); and for those inclined to self-observation, it may occasionally seem as though an alien, deliberately coarse will is interfering with their own. A similar effect is observed in external circumstances, which are not exactly hostile or overtly obstructive (a sesquiquadrate is not a square), but rather unfavorably rigid, often actually destroying the most interesting, promising, or appealing moments in the planet’s spheres. And even when external conditions are favorable, an inner demon suddenly emerges, coarsening everything in a way that the lower will cannot overcome. The work here involves forming ideals and integrating higher will and higher direction, along with careful analysis of subconscious programs governing the interaction between the will principle and the planet: somewhere here (a clue should be sought in situations of simultaneous activity in the houses occupied by the Sun and the planet) lies deeply entrenched ego, buried in evolutionary strata far below the individual’s own evolutionary level. Processing requires awareness and transformation of this program, after which the person gains the ability for precise and subtle volitional control in the planet’s spheres. At a low level, this is the aspect of dictators possessing rigid external suppression apparatuses, and their victims. Moon sesquiquadrate: In hardened people, there is an iron shell around the heart; in sensitive ones, a plastic one. This aspect brings general inner awkwardness and coarseness of perception in the planet’s spheres, along with reflexive habits. For example, with a Mars-Moon sesquiquadrate, at a low level the person best understands the language of beatings and tends to express himself in the same manner, which also applies to his inner life—this person will be very harsh with himself, possibly persecuting, cornering, reshaping without anesthesia, etc. In the planet’s spheres, at a low level this individual may provoke irritation in others due to what they perceive as heartlessness and a tendency to straightforwardly ignore everything he dislikes, focusing only on his own (usually crude) needs, yet satisfying them with iron determination. The person himself usually notices nothing of this, but sometimes (far from always!) sensing others’ negative attitudes, withdraws into his egoism, considering their complaints unjust, groundless, and altogether incomprehensible. Here, indeed, the work is difficult and requires great desire for self-overcoming and conquering inner coarseness; it is extremely hard to bring this into consciousness, since the subconscious censorship here is coarse (like the programs themselves) and often simply erases large chunks, leaving blank white spots in memory and perception (the person says: “I don’t remember that, no matter how hard you try… and I somehow didn’t notice this at all, which is strange”). Processing here develops the ability for precise and subtle remote control over the subconscious fragments corresponding to the planet.
