Semi-square Sun – Jupiter
(Transit. Sun → Natal Jupiter)
Avesalom Podvodny. Aspects
Semi-square Sun: A person must do little to fulfill the will of God; he still needs to think that it is his own. This aspect makes a person’s will in the areas governed by the planet insufficiently refined, sometimes too crude a tool. His initiatives often prove too straightforward (if the Sun is in Pisces or Cancer, the person will, accordingly, be overly blunt and awkwardly evade responsibility, hiding in his shell). If inclined toward self-observation, he may sometimes feel that his will is seemingly mixed with something foreign, deliberately crude and harsh. A similar effect is observed in imperative external circumstances, which are not so much openly hostile or outright obstructive (a semi-square is not a square), but rather harshly unfavorable and often actually destroy the most interesting, promising, or attractive moments for the person in the areas governed by the planet. If, however, the external situation is favorable, an internal demon suddenly awakens, harshly roughening things, which the person cannot manage at the level of lower will. Here, the work involves forming ideals and incorporating higher will and higher direction, as well as carefully analyzing the subconscious programs that govern the interaction of the principles of will and the planet: somewhere here (a hint should be sought in situations of simultaneous activity of the houses occupied by the Sun and the planet) the ego is deeply entrenched, buried in evolutionary patterns far below the person’s actual evolutionary level. Processing requires awareness and transformation of this program, after which the person gains the ability to exercise clear and refined volitional control in the areas governed by the planet. At a low level, this aspect manifests in dictators who wield a rigid apparatus of external suppression and their victims.
Semi-square Jupiter: The very concept of matter is deeply idealistic. This aspect brings formal expansion in the areas governed by the planet; here, a person may take interest in scientific achievements, philosophical generalizations, or simply other developmental directions, but tends to understand them in a straightforward manner, at a low level, exclusively from egocentric and pragmatic positions. With poor processing, a peculiar rigid pride may arise, where the person does not accept compliments outside the image he has set for himself but demands their confirmation unconditionally; such behavior is a reaction to a subconscious sense of lacking true greatness, natural and effortless breadth of possibilities, which, for example, is characteristic of a Jupiter trine: like a colonel looking at a general. This person tends to act as a benefactor, philanthropist, or patron in the areas governed by the planet, but his capabilities often do not match the needs of the environment, and he must learn to take this into account; here, mistakes are far more visible than in a Jupiter semi-quartile, and blows to self-esteem are more painful. Processing provides the opportunity for effective, skillful, and timely assistance to others, genuine expansion of possibilities in the areas governed by the planet, but for this, one must learn to see not only the decorative embellishments in one’s tools but also the quality of their sharpening.
