Mercury–Uranus Conjunction

A. Pidvorny: Mercury–Uranus Conjunction. Mercury’s conjunction: the absence of thought is troubling, but so too is its presence in many cases. Mercury imparts a strong mental coloring to the planet it joins, even when this is neither needed nor desired by the individual. For example, in a Mercury–Venus conjunction within love relationships, there may be so much calculation and rationality that any spontaneous feeling or living sensation will be short-lived—especially if Mercury is stronger than Venus. Unfortunately, mental coloring is not equivalent to intelligence, as it most often reduces to widespread superficial notions and societal conscious and unconscious stereotypes, which will actively influence the planet’s principle, heavily schematizing and trivializing it. The person will certainly feel this, but all attempts to escape such a deadening (yet individually unique) influence of Mercury upon the planet—by expanding the sphere of its expression (for instance, seeking new lovers in the case of Venus)—are doomed to fail, because the mind, though crude, is flexible and can adapt in some way.
Working through this conjunction primarily involves processing Mercury—understanding the role and meaning of mental activity as an energetic flow and planetary principle that provides general direction but does not replace it. This processing is complex, as it requires restructuring of thinking: letting go of rigid, linear social stereotypes and learning to work with lighter, more flexible thought-forms capable of facilitating an adequate interaction between the Cosmos and the planet’s principle. For example, a Mercury–Mars conjunction with a strong Mercury at a low level of development produces not a person, but practically a robot, who must first mentally model any active action, completely unable to trust the feeling or logic of their immediate energetic impulses. Proper integration of this aspect brings great creative abilities, manifesting as subtle and inventive indirect mental management of the planet’s principle at those moments when it is necessary.
Uranus conjunction: The magnitude of what it produces is such that it can easily slip into mania. This is a difficult aspect, as in the areas ruled by the planet conjunct Uranus, the individual—whether they wish it or not—sometimes becomes a guinea pig of the Absolute, whose ways are inscrutable, especially in the beginning. Generally, this is a very powerful aspect; if the person can adapt to fate’s rhythm in the domains ruled by the planet and learns to read or at least pay attention to the karmic signs being sent, they will not only protect themselves (and others) from numerous troubles but also demonstrate an extraordinarily unconventional worldview, and possibly more. Unfortunately, they will likely greatly overestimate its value: these diamonds require cutting, after which the resulting gem is often much smaller. If the conjunction is heavily afflicted, the burden on the planet may become unbearable, making it difficult for the person to remain within socially acceptable boundaries in those areas—many of their ideas and actions will be completely incomprehensible to others, and the shadow of a psychiatric institution may loom over them.
One must learn to ground their fantasies and soften acute states. This can be achieved by activating harmonious aspects of the planet or its dispositor. As always, working with Saturn helps—developing respect for external reality (processing the 10th house) and cultivating a sense of humor (working through Chiron). When the planet receives harmonious aspects, this conjunction becomes most dangerous to others—especially those who activate the planet. Yet it is precisely with and for them that its unexpected ingenuity, flashes of ideas, and surges of energy will manifest.
