Mercury Square: If a thought occurs but does not take verbal form, it means it was poorly invited. The Mercury square creates significant difficulties for a person in reconciling the planet’s principle with rational thinking and language. The interpretation depends on which planet in the square is stronger. If Mercury prevails, the person will consider their (sometimes others’) thoughts and reflections on the planet’s matter extremely important and reasonable, even though they often distort the planet’s principle because they do not fully understand it rationally. However, others may find their thoughts genuinely insightful. If the planet in the square is stronger, their thinking will be under its disharmonious influence—distorted, profaned, narrowed, etc. In general, the Mercury square is characterized by a strong mental interest in the planet’s issues and spheres of influence, with initially distorted reasoning that sees fragments of truth alongside deep insights but overall remains unsatisfactory. The person may struggle to believe this even after repeated experiences. The level of processing the aspect is evident in the quality of speech when the person discusses the planet’s matters (if they speak calmly, i.e., through Mercury rather than Mars). At a low level of processing the Mercury square, the person often tends to study (lecture) others to assert themselves at their expense, without fully grasping the subject they are discussing. Working through this aspect requires systematically filling gaps in mental perception of the planet’s principle and avoiding direct mental pressure on it, which leads to crude profanation (as well as a tendency toward speculation). Next, they must learn to overcome their unnatural dullness when trying to understand something new about the planet (the subconscious protest can be intense, even leading to severe depression or an inability to read text) and resist emotional resistance to developing deeper understanding. Pluto Square: Angelic wings grow where the cross of fate chafes. The Pluto square manifests as a sense of discomfort for the person regarding the sacrifices the fate demands in the planet’s area—at least, that is how it seems to them. They must accept that these sacrifices will be demanded at an inopportune moment and result in unpleasant consequences of seemingly unnecessary and unwanted quality. Unfortunately, this is a characteristic of this karmic program. The Pluto square is the aspect of Job, which, fortunately, does not always lead to such extremes. The manifestations of the planet’s principle in the external world will sharply dissatisfy the person, prompting them to seek to restore order in this area, for which they will need corresponding power. However, the karmic intention is precisely the opposite: to bring purity and order to the planet’s principle within the person’s inner world and subconscious, requiring them to gain power over their instincts and lower impulses belonging to the planet. Until the person becomes aware of this, they will repeatedly face difficult sacrifices and a fate that pursues them to the extent they provoke it—whether consciously or unconsciously, intentionally or unintentionally, for good or bad reasons. A crucial point is that in the planet’s area, the person acts like a magnifying glass, vividly exposing their (and others’) smallest imperfections and flaws. This aspect offers great opportunities for inner development and self-purification while simultaneously producing worldly “black teachers” of a dictatorial type who destroy low and average manifestations of the planet’s principle in the external world with power, fire, and sword, leaving only the most refined (which go unnoticed) or, at times, mere ashes. At an average level, the person exhibits rigid behavior with elements of harsh authority and nihilism toward others, combined with a desire to master the planet’s principle themselves. Internally, they desperately want to present their ideal to the world, but it simply does not work out, or (in their view) the world is not mature enough to recognize the perfection placed before it.
