Sun quincunx: The hardest thing is to fight an enemy while remaining a peaceful person. This aspect produces in the areas of the Planet an effect of certain inadequacy in the person’s volitional impulses, noticeable to attentive surroundings and, at a certain level of self-awareness, to the individual himself, though they will find it difficult to articulate exactly what it is, and he will struggle to understand it. Similarly, external imperative situations in the Planet’s areas will present certain difficulties for the person—each of which, if desired, he is capable of overcoming in some way, but when the quincunx is afflicted, this may seem exhausting (while with harmonious aspects, it may appear appealing). This aspect indicates external intervention of cosmic will in the Planet’s areas, as well as attempts to integrate it through the individual’s personal will. Until the person begins to recognize (in the Planet’s areas) the cosmic signature in external imperative circumstances and in his own volitional impulses, and until he learns to perceive (within his own volitional impulses) and respond to them adequately, both will considerably perplex and partially disturb him. Generally, in the areas of a quincunx, the individual (except at a very high level of integration) experiences difficulties related to the emergence of cosmic, i.e., transpersonal, influences and ethics. In this case, however, it manifests particularly acutely, because it is difficult even to acknowledge that one’s will is under the influence of the cosmic, as would be the case with a Sun semi-sextile, but even more so when combining it with one’s own initiative and creative efforts. At a low level, with an afflicted Sun, the person will tend to evade the small pebbles occasionally flying toward him in the Planet’s areas, while with a well-aspected Sun, he will likely experience passive pleasure, akin to sensing the vibrations of a fast train on the upper bunk of a soft railway carriage; upon sudden braking, one might fall down, but the bones will remain intact. Neptune quincunx: One doesn’t have to be good: it’s enough to be honest and attentive. This aspect brings in the Planet’s areas the influence of cosmic love, which the individual at a low level most often perceives negatively. Modern civilization is such that even earthly forces pushing a person toward evolutionary development are predominantly perceived as malevolent, and conscious spiritual development is usually pursued by those who have ended up in a complete dead end in all other directions; therefore, high cosmic vibrations in the Planet’s areas mean for the individual either incomprehensible shifts in consciousness (transcendent meditations), or such life turns that “you can’t make sense of without half a liter.” Yet the latter will lower the level of cosmic meditation to an earthly, understandable, and even nearly ecstatic experience. With an afflicted Neptune, in the Planet’s areas there may arise an irrational sense of cosmic guilt, usually repressed, and inner conflict due to the mismatch between perceptions of cosmic and earthly grace, mercy, and compassion, since the Cosmos is more interested in the evolution of spirit, while people are predominantly oriented and largely limited to the physical, etheric, and astral bodies, blissfully ignoring karmic laws altogether. To resolve the conflict between earthly and cosmic Neptunian influences, the person must learn to see karma, adopt a cosmic point of view, and only then attempt to reconcile earthly karma with higher influences. To achieve this, in the Planet’s areas, he must first rid himself of constant petty lies and self-deception, which mask what is truly at stake. Cosmic love does not so much soften suffering as it shortens it, redirecting pain along more constructive paths for the individual.
