Sun quincunx: It is hardest to fight an enemy while remaining a peaceful person. This aspect produces in the planet’s spheres an effect of certain inadequacy in the person’s volitional impulses, noticeable to attentive surroundings and, at a certain level of self-awareness, to the individual himself—though they will find it difficult to articulate precisely what it is, and he will struggle to understand it. Similarly, external imperative situations in the planet’s spheres will present the person with certain difficulties, each of which he could overcome in some way if he wished; but when the quincunx is afflicted, this may seem exhausting (while with harmonious aspects, it may appear appealing). This aspect signifies external intervention of cosmic will within the planet’s spheres, as well as attempts to integrate it through the individual’s personal will. Until the person begins to recognize the cosmic signature both in external imperative circumstances and in his own volitional impulses within these spheres, and learns to respond to both appropriately, they will considerably perplex and partially disturb him. Generally, in the areas of a quincunx, a person (except at a very high level of integration) experiences difficulties related to the emergence of cosmic, i.e. non-human, influences and ethics; but in this case, it manifests particularly acutely, because it is difficult even to admit that one’s will is under the influence of the cosmic, as would be the case with a Sun semi-sextile, yet here it must be combined with one’s own initiative and creative efforts. At a low level, when the Sun is afflicted, the person will tend to evade the small pebbles occasionally flying toward him in the planet’s spheres; whereas with a well-aspected Sun, he may passively enjoy something akin to the vibrations of a fast train felt on the upper bunk of a soft sleeper car; upon sudden braking, one might fall down, but the bones will remain intact. Saturn quincunx: A person who lacks inner freedom has no moral right to demand civil liberties. This aspect causes dissatisfaction with ordinary earthly means of deepening within the planet’s spheres, no matter how deeply one penetrates them, and the same applies to working with its principle in the inner world: here, the individual needs to hear the cosmic resonance and perceive the unearthly depth, which he senses he has the capacity for. At a low level, of course, the person remains unaware of all this, and Saturn’s quincunx manifests as minor annoyances and restrictions in the planet’s spheres, related to his orientation toward ordinary earthly methods of handling corresponding issues and his inability to view them from a cosmic perspective, and although subconsciously it will be quite difficult for him. Generally, this aspect produces in the planet’s spheres dissatisfaction with earthly wisdom and a desire to grasp cosmic wisdom. Sometimes the person may feel he is glimpsing it, but initially with considerable distortions, since cosmic laws can be understood only through a conscious and subconscious departure from geocentric positions and the majority of social views, which hold people very tightly, especially in serious matters. Therefore, here there may be poorly conscious oscillations between cosmic orientations, which are attractive to the subconscious but seem suspicious, and earthly, established ones, which are reliable but unsatisfying; as a result, the issue gets repressed, leaving a general vague feeling of dissatisfaction, or, especially when the quincunx is afflicted, leads to stress. The process of integration here is difficult, but yields cosmic wisdom, insight into karma, and the ability to harmoniously weave cosmic karma into earthly life.
