Sun quincunx: It is hardest to fight an enemy while remaining a peaceful person. This aspect produces in the areas of the planet an effect of certain inadequacy in the person’s volitional impulses, noticeable to attentive surroundings and, at a certain level of self-awareness, to the individual himself—though they will find it difficult to articulate exactly what it is, and he will struggle to understand it. Similarly, external imperative situations in the planet’s spheres will present the individual with certain difficulties, each of which he is capable of overcoming in some way if he so desires; yet when the quincunx is afflicted, this may seem exhausting (and when harmoniously aspected, potentially appealing). This aspect signifies external intervention of cosmic will within the planet’s spheres, as well as attempts to integrate it through the individual’s personal will. Until the person begins to recognize the cosmic signature both in external imperative circumstances and in his own volitional impulses within these spheres—and learns to respond to them appropriately—both will considerably perplex and partially disturb him. Generally, in the areas of a quincunx, the individual (except at a very high level of integration) experiences difficulties related to the emergence of cosmic, i.e. transpersonal, influences and ethics. In this case, however, the effect is especially acute, because it is difficult even to acknowledge that one’s will is under the influence of the cosmic, as would be the case with a semi-sextile of the Sun, but even more so when combining it with one’s own initiative and creative efforts. At a low level, with an afflicted Sun, the person will tend to evade the small pebbles occasionally flying toward him in the planet’s spheres; with a well-aspected Sun, he will likely experience passive enjoyment, akin to sensing the vibrations of a fast train while lying on the upper berth of a soft railway carriage; upon sudden braking, one might fall down, but the bones will remain intact. Jupiter quincunx: The existence of God awakens in me an inferiority complex. This aspect promises in the planet’s spheres an unusual expansion of possibilities connected with access to a cosmic egregore, provided the individual can attune to the corresponding vibrational level and master its ethics, which may occasionally differ unexpectedly from familiar earthly standards. For example, a Jupiter-Uranus quincunx might enable a theoretical physicist to receive information from very high cosmic planes, but it will remain uncorrupted only if accompanied by proper spiritual orientation; otherwise, brilliant ideas will frequently come to him, promising a major discovery just around the corner, yet repeatedly proving deceptive in the end—the distortion of initially correct ideas stemming from insufficient attention to cosmic ethics, for which ordinary earthly desire for abstract knowledge is entirely focused on a relatively low mental plane. At a low level, the individual will repeatedly grasp at cosmic themes in the planet’s spheres, but these interests and activities will turn out to be episodic and superficial, although he himself will likely hold the opposite view—and at the very least, deep earthly limitations in these matters, both within his immediate environment and among humanity in general, will be evident.
