Het Monster: Sun in Capricorn
To the peaks of gray mountains from the depths of the sea
I strive, never knowing rest.
I am a leader! My mature mind
Captivates everyone, leading the way,
Shining with wisdom or a jest.

The Sea Goat is associated with images of whimsical fantasy, and fantasy may be part of the character of your little Capricorn, though this side of the personality is usually hidden behind dominant seriousness. His rather peculiar sense of humor likely gives him relief from strong and extremely disciplined maturity. His strange jokes are most often directed at himself rather than others. This child is truly a little adult, and he himself treats adults well from an early age. He will always seem older than his years… until he actually becomes old. Older Capricorns often retain their youth and sense of humor to an age when others have long lost them. Perhaps this is because, having achieved what they intended, Capricorns feel they have earned the right to indulge in frivolity! In any case, it is unlikely that you will have to teach a little Capricorn about responsibility, as duty, reliability, discipline, and a strong sense of honor will likely come naturally, as if innate. Sometimes you may find yourself wondering how to loosen him up and make him have fun. This child will always have a mountain to climb—ambition and determination to accomplish something and gain recognition for it will be evident from the earliest age. A Capricorn achieves the goal; there is no other way! He will insist and succeed where peers fail: he simply refuses to give up.

Another key word for Capricorn is “practicality.” Frivolous actions do not appeal to him. If your child is going to do something, it means he has understood the reasons and seen the practical purpose of the matter. Thus, he will have the ability to work hard and do well in school, but will achieve the best results when he can see the practical benefit of the knowledge he acquires. Abstract subjects will seem useless to him, but the stimulus of ambition and status can provoke serious effort even in a subject that seemed pointless.

Reliability and confidence are very important to your child. Above all, this is emotional confidence and approval, so be mindful not to take his usually good behavior for granted and forget to reward it with gratitude and praise. This later translates into material reliability as well. Thrift is natural to him. A little Capricorn will try to save money “for a rainy day” and accumulate enough wealth to buy something real. There is a downside to such seriousness: it breeds anxiety and a tendency to view things pessimistically. You will likely often need to show the little Capricorn that there is no misfortune without good fortune.

Though he has good athletic abilities, there may be an issue of being the “laughingstock” of the team. Therefore, individual sports are better. On the positive side, this is a child you can always take anywhere and rely on for impeccable behavior and good manners.

Indubala. Planets in Signs. (Indian Tradition)

Capricorn is associated with the earth element, “feminine” and “negative” sign. Therefore, people born in the month when the Sun is in this sign display practical inclinations. They work slowly and, when possible, do not mind being lazy, but possess organizational abilities; they can work where patience and gradual progress are required; they excel in commerce and wherever a significant role is given to counting and accumulating something. They like to postpone matters day by day, are very selfish, and do not like to be controlled by others; yet they can work diligently and persistently. They enjoy traveling. They ascend life’s ladder slowly. They are capable of quickly grasping ideas on the fly and love to fully and thoroughly understand the issues that interest them. They are quite capable of renouncing any worldly pleasures; this trait is characteristic of Stoics; they can well perceive transcendental philosophy due to their tendency, as a rule, toward a pessimistic view of the world and those around them.

Classical texts and my personal experience speak of the following qualities of people with the Sun in this sign: they are enterprising, capable of rising to a high position in society or entering circles of high-ranking people, but can be intrusive and meddlesome; they may be dishonest, heartless, stingy, and stubborn. They are capable of compassion for the unfortunate and oppressed; they are cautious, work diligently, are friendly, and have a sense of humor. Calm and melancholic, they strive for the gradual unfolding of their plans, believe in fate and the supernatural. They can sacrifice themselves for a cause. These are creative people, sometimes cunning and suspicious.

Here we have the Earth element in the third zone of transformation, a more subtle, ideal level of its manifestation. Saturn is the primary ruler here. The ancient symbol of Capricorn is a goat emerging from the Earth, even with wings. This animal connects the Earth element with the next element, Air. Such duality is inherent in you if your Sun is in the sign of Sagittarius. You are usually a rigid analyst, highly focused. Purposefulness is the deepest, essential quality of Capricorns. You set a goal for yourself and pursue it using your excellent tactical abilities, your agility, or in the worst case, cunning and conformity. In the lower expression, on your path to the goal, you can sweep aside literally everything, acting quite harshly, clearly, and unquestionably. In the worst case, you are a very cunning person, and it is very difficult to catch you red-handed because you act very subtly and delicately. To implement your plans and goals, you can use any means. Among such Capricorns, we see Pol Pot, who destroyed several million people in his country, and Mao Zedong. Many Capricorns live with an inner sense of purpose, making the goal of life the desire to convey this sense of purpose to others. Therefore, among the higher Capricorns, we find preachers, pastors, prophets, and missionaries. However, unlike Sagittarians, there is a more practical focus here. You can not only provide a lofty idea but also the means to achieve it—practical tools, real schemes, and methods for reaching high goals. Your higher level is connected to the inner sense of a high purpose. Sometimes this sense can be elevated to mysticism, to an unwavering desire to bring your goal to the people. Ideally, these are saviors of the world and humanity—Zarathustra, Christ. In history, we also find other Capricorns: Joan of Arc, philosopher Albert Schweitzer, Nostradamus. Among them were Gurdjieff with his “Man-Machine” system and Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism. Many Capricorns are pessimists, extremely secretive people who do not let anyone close. Many among them are ascetics, hermits, people who know how to limit themselves in everything. If we talk about the dynamics of your development, it is the direct pursuit of your goal and the ability to maneuver to achieve it. Sometimes you climb a mountain, sometimes, like a bird, you leap from ledge to ledge, leaving hunters far behind and reaching places others can never access. But this manifests at the highest level of spiritual development. Externally, Earth manifests in you as a drive toward the goal. Your problems are acute issues of the inner world and emotional life (by the Moon in detriment). You are often reserved and unsociable. But this reserve stems from your vulnerability; you are internally very sensitive, and your outward reserve is your protection. You struggle with using your inner energy and directing it constructively. And perhaps your deepest and most difficult problem is the issue of inner spiritual orientation. Since you are a practical leader, you must have a lofty idea and be guided by it in life, using your idea to build a practical, coherent system and share it with people. The land of Capricorn is China. Here, traits such as clarity, systematic planning, stability, purposefulness, a desire for conservatism, tradition, strength, and an unyielding drive toward the goal are evident. In the worst case, we find cunning and adaptability. Your karmic task is to provide a practical system for achieving a lofty spiritual goal.

December 22 – January 20. CAPRICORN Capricorn (especially if several planets are in this sign) is a realist. He loves solitude and risks remaining alone. At the same time, he is a hardworking person, a good organizer; to feel “in place,” he needs to work constantly. For him, success is not success if it is not earned through persistent effort. Capricorn is career-oriented, often at the expense of personal life. He seeks success as compensation for the sadness and emptiness of such a life. However, he never mixes his feelings with work. His feelings are governed by reason; his entire life is one of order, duty, and logic. Ambition and the desire for power drive him. Forever busy, he believes no one can handle his affairs better than he can. Time works in his favor. The most important phase of life, the phase of fulfilling desires, comes after fifty. His youth is difficult and full of struggle. He values and guards what he has earned, sometimes becoming greedy. A conservative, traditionalist. The youth do not like him for his dryness and coldness. Capricorn usually has a much stronger spirit than body; he eats little, sleeps little. Reserved, he finds it difficult to connect with people and creates problems for himself. Over time, this leads to rheumatism, arthritis, and the like. He is usually a pessimist, complaining of many ailments, though he lives long (Capricorns are long-lived). Walks in the forest are recommended, preferably in a pine forest, and working in the garden. For the young—tourism, mountaineering, speleology. However, Capricorns usually do not engage in sports. Magnesium and calcium are indicated, as well as cypress among herbs. The best preventive measure against many ailments is a good mood and laughter.

Capricorn. Ruler Saturn. Tenacious Capricorn.

————————————————————–

The Capricorn person. In the transformative zone, the earth element acquires a somewhat ideal resonance: for Capricorn, form primarily holds the meaning of organizing people (or other objects); however, their perspective is always concretely practical (unlike the airy Libra), focusing not on organization itself but on the specific task, function, or role they perform. The life purpose of Capricorn as an earth sign is, of course, to create certain forms, but they imagine these forms differently than Taurus or Virgo—more subtly. For Capricorn (here, the influence of the air element is evident), the forms themselves are important, as is the mental idea behind them. A typical Capricorn might be, for example, a factory director whose life purpose lies in improving and maintaining the viability of their enterprise. This Capricorn views their factory as a complex form underpinned by an organizing idea, with the ultimate goal being the production of material goods. Their task is to grasp this mental idea (which they perceive as their own) with maximum precision and implement it as effectively as possible in reality. The air influence also manifests in their tenacity toward the main goal, yet they remain flexible enough to temporarily deviate—so to speak—to take a detour.

Capricorn’s karmic task is, in a sense, the most challenging for a human being. Generally, humanity’s primary task is to create dense forms, but among the three earth signs, Capricorn bears the subtlest responsibility: forming structures at the intersection of the material and subtle worlds. A single person cannot immediately create a complex dense form; it requires organizing an entire collective (or dedicating themselves to the task for an extended period). Establishing such a collective is an intermediate step in materializing a complex object from the subtle world—a step Capricorn takes upon themselves.

A typical Capricorn, of course, does not necessarily articulate their life program in such terms, but they possess a strong sense of responsibility for their work, which they approach entirely practically, without sentimentality (water) or passion (fire). Capricorn organizes collectives; they organize any endeavor and, ultimately, their entire life, providing an attentive observer with a precise reflection of the corresponding structures in the subtle world—whether consciously or (more often) unconsciously—materializing them with extraordinary tenacity into dense forms and external events.

Capricorn may be the most deprived of all zodiac signs. Devoid of direct sources of energy (fire) and deep emotions (water), they substitute genuine emotion and immediate energy with mental models. As an organizer and, in many ways, an indirect creator of material forms, they can perceive them adequately. Finally, by embodying the designs of the subtle world, they lack the direct access that water signs possess and often categorically reject the immaterial, though they practically engage with it constantly.

Moreover, despite the exceptional clarity (compared to other signs) of their life program, Capricorn does not feel it for a long time, only gradually sensing it weakly and intuitively, as they always orient themselves toward the external, practical plane. Karmic programs do not include entries like “produce cast-iron ingots over a lifetime.” Capricorn’s lesson is that real achievements in life are important, but they should be perceived as symbols of genuine work in the subtle world, and the ability to read these symbols does not come immediately—it requires separate effort.

Thus, Capricorn is serious, often somewhat tedious, like someone preparing for a long and arduous climb; however, they liven up directly during the ascent. Being decisive (cardinal cross), Capricorn is not inclined to act impulsively without thorough consideration and alignment with the program they are currently executing. Yet their rare, carefully prepared, unexpected (to others) energetic and decisive actions often prove highly effective, though not always flashy—Capricorn dislikes spectacle.

Capricorn regards emotions and excessive enthusiasm with distrust and skepticism, seeing them as either indulgence or pretense and, in any case, obstacles to the unwavering execution of their primary program of organization and materialization.

A developed Capricorn sees the meaning of material objects and external events in the subtle world and knows how to organize affairs so that all participants feel engaged in meaningful, important, and personally compelling activities—even if their understanding of reality differs (depending on their evolutionary level) and their visible actions align while their shared goals do not harmonize with the harmony of the Cosmos.

Given the complexity of their tasks, low- and average-level Capricorns are typically gloomy and prone to tedium. On the other hand, Capricorn is a natural manipulator and, in its lower octave, tends toward energetic vampirism; however, unlike Cancer and Scorpio, sadism is alien to them—they are far too rational and mental.

From a psychological standpoint, Capricorn struggles to grasp the external and internal emotionality of fire and water signs, yet they can model their mental framework in their mind and subsequently become quite a capable practical psychologist—one who does not emotionally engage with a patient’s problems but can perceive their inner structure and precisely adjust subconscious programs.

Saturn’s rulership grants the high Capricorn wisdom, caution, and patience necessary to fulfill their complex tasks. By governing space and time, Saturn makes Capricorn a purposeful master of the manifested world, guiding their evolution. Saturn instills discipline and asceticism in Capricorn, often rendering them indifferent to their appearance, though a strict dark or black three-piece suit with a solid-colored tie suits them exceptionally well. However, their asceticism primarily applies to themselves, as fanaticism in any form is alien to them. They tend to influence the world indirectly—a reflection of Saturn’s wisdom, which always knows how to outmaneuver aggressive, straightforward Mars.

At the same time, Saturn vigilantly ensures Capricorn never lacks work, constantly placing obstacles in their path to accustom them to continuous maneuvering in space-time, working with low energy and under intolerable conditions. Saturn endows the high Capricorn with practical wisdom (unlike the theoretical wisdom of Sagittarius), which Saturn believes can only be attained through firsthand experience in the field.

Thus, there is a stark contrast between Capricorn in early life and youth (around age 30), when they are fully absorbed by survival, gaining life experience, and shaping their worldview (which may be harder for them than for any other sign), and Capricorn in maturity, when they transform from an awkward youth into a refined adult.

Despite the apparent burdens of life, Capricorn rarely breaks. They can endure long suffering, bending under the weight of circumstances, but when life becomes unbearable, they recall their cardinal nature and decisively change their path, seeking a new direction. They do not erase their past in their soul but view it as a detour on the overall ascent.

The Moon’s imprisonment symbolizes Capricorn’s alienation from their lower “self” and submission to the highest goal. Capricorn does not trust their subconscious—it is vivid and sensitive in them—so their first reaction is to suppress their Moon, that is,

Subconsciously, life-supporting programs and their primary emotional background are perceived as low, unnecessary, and obstructive to the main program. In reality, Capricorn is very vulnerable and sensitive, but Saturn does not allow it to manifest (emotional asceticism), though it provides a certain protection (a mask of dryness). Learning to balance Saturn and the Moon is one of Capricorn’s main inner tasks, as it usually rigidly opposes duty to the satisfaction of needs and the fulfillment of desires. At the same time, if the symbolically sharpened Moon is poorly worked out, Capricorn becomes indifferent and merciless toward others, whom it begins to view as lazy and worthless sybarites who require nothing but a knotted club studded with shark teeth.

A developed Capricorn benefits greatly from the Moon, as it provides empathic perception of reality and actualizes it as a feminine sign—something Capricorn tends to forget. In this case, fulfilling Capricorn’s karmic task becomes significantly easier, as the depth of its perception of reality sharply reduces the number and length of detours on its upward path.

The culmination of Mars gives a developed Capricorn a stable source of energy that supports its activities even in conditions where, it seems, no help is forthcoming. At the same time, this is not the same energy as that of the lower octave of the fiery signs; it is rather an organizing force capable of creating structure and conditions that can manage rougher and more unruly signs and channel their energy toward the task at hand.

In an undeveloped Capricorn, the culmination of Mars manifests more negatively, as the force of circumstances that hinder both its external and internal life. It needs to learn not to complain about fate but to comprehend the world, overcome obstacles, and use hostile forces constructively and destructively—capabilities it inherently possesses in abundance. The culmination of Mars symbolizes Capricorn’s hidden sources of energy, which are not easy for it to uncover, as they only reveal themselves through evolutionary growth and initially only in critical situations when it seems there are no forces left at all. Yet when Capricorn masters Martian energy, it wields it so subtly that others fail to notice it (thus avoiding resistance), and the effect of its actions creates the impression of a miracle: why, after all, does everyone, even Aries, obey it, and why do things organize themselves as if by magic? After all, Aries only submits to force…

The fall of Jupiter symbolizes the narrowness of Capricorn’s programs and their concrete, practical orientation. It is very difficult for Capricorn to accept the breadth of Jupiter’s abstract perspective, and the very idea of undeserved luck is initially deeply alien to it; it reeks of frivolity and carelessness. Thus, Capricorn does not fare particularly well—here, the principle “We don’t believe in miracles, so they don’t happen to us” applies, and Capricorn clearly does not need them. However, as it develops, Capricorn begins to understand that without a sufficiently broad worldview, without poorly motivated optimism (at least outwardly), tolerance, and, not least, luck, a grand project cannot be realized—and all these things are interconnected.

A developed Capricorn, having bitterly experienced what it means to live without Jupiter’s help, carefully nurtures Jupiterian breadth of vision, a certain idealism, and tolerance in the rare instances when they arise, thereby greatly expanding its capabilities and more often seeing Fortune’s smile.

The fall of Neptune symbolizes the difficulties Capricorn faces in allowing cosmic love to penetrate its heart. Where there is a goal, Capricorn believes, love ends and work begins, and without a (practical) goal, it cannot imagine itself. Compassion for others and altruism, to put it bluntly, are not among the strongest traits of the average Capricorn. Yet at the same time, it is precisely the Cosmos that sets Capricorn its higher goals, which it pursues methodically throughout life without fully realizing them—goals that are actually dictated by the principle of cosmic love. To grasp and comprehend the true meaning of its activities, Capricorn must delve into the depths of the subtle world (or its subconscious), which is extremely difficult for it, as it is too oriented toward dense forms. Nevertheless, its highest calling—to be a spiritual teacher of humanity—is directly tied to the working out of Neptune.

The Capricorn situation is typical of a director’s meeting, where it, along with deputies and especially trusted department heads, discusses plans for reorganizing the enterprise. Here, at least on the surface, the interests of the common cause take precedence, and personal relationships, emotions, and passions have no place. The Capricorn situation coldly and ruthlessly assigns roles and organizes people, guided by an ethic that has little to do with the human but is also not inhuman: minimal care for the person as such is ensured so that they can perform their assigned functions.

The Capricorn situation differs from that of Virgo in that in the latter, a person always feels the form with which they work, whereas in the former, this is not necessarily the case: in a lower-octave Capricorn situation, a person often feels like a cog in a vast machine operating for unknown reasons and according to incomprehensible, apparently inhuman laws—laws that, nevertheless, remain inhuman.

The Capricorn situation implies hierarchy; in the best case, the latter has a spiritual meaning and is voluntary.

Francis Sakoian. The Planets in the Signs of the Zodiac

The Sun in Capricorn is a constant and tireless organizer of its own and others’ work. At a low level, it attempts to command without delving into the essence of the matter, relying instead on an existing formal management or organizational scheme. With certain aspects (for example, a trine to the South Node of the Moon), it can become a full-fledged retrograde administrator. The complexity of this position lies in the fact that, as a feminine sign, Capricorn requires the Sun to receive a completely clear and unambiguous command (from the Egregor) before taking any action, especially when forming long-term karmic programs. Capricorn needs special wisdom and the ability to look far ahead, which develops gradually over a lifetime, while the Sun represents the imperative will of the Egregor and demands immediate action from the very beginning of life. Thus, Capricorn must confront the distant consequences of youthful errors; in return, it is imbued with a strong sense of responsibility and respect for the past.

In this way, the Sun in Capricorn senses the law of cause and effect dimly, vaguely, and intuitively—but it does sense it. Its important task is to learn to perceive it more concretely and apply it practically. Once it does, it becomes a responsible and effective practical leader, organizing matters with such conviction and precision that no one would ever suspect that in complex situations, it appeals not so much to reason as to higher intuition and subtle insight into the situation. When afflicted, it tends toward the exploitation of others’ labor (a slave driver) and energy vampirism, believing it does so more for the sake of the cause than for its own benefit, as well as a love of control and verification (of others, but usually not of itself; without sadism, but out of a general sense of order and duty).

They are not satisfied with today’s day. They have a sense that a great future awaits them. They want to do something special. Their ambition is striking, yet they rely on reality, though they often choose unusual paths that seem like detours but lead them to the front. Their tenacity surprises, something that cannot be guessed from their appearance. They are strong competitors, important figures. Having survived a blow of fate, they seek to avoid the next one, arming themselves with knowledge and patience, climbing from one peak to another. Soon they find themselves on the summits, but alone, which they accept with resignation, complaining loudly, yet this solitude cannot force them to turn back. They do not merely overcome obstacles in their path—they destroy them. They are very diligent, always ready to learn, receptive to criticism, striving to process it and draw conclusions. They possess excellent intuition, which they use in their struggle for independence and financial security. They consider reason the highest commandment. They believe in their own strength, are cautious, modest, thrifty, including in the expression of their feelings. They guard their nerves but pay less attention to their stomach, as they eat a lot and enjoy good food. They avoid unnecessary disputes, save time, for there is little of it and much to do. They are loyal and precise, rarely changing their views. Childhood impressions shape their entire path. They are persistent in achieving their goals. They think clearly, but their sense of humor is lacking—they are too serious. When teased, they become suspicious. They cannot tolerate evasions, half-truths, or ambiguity. Externally stern, they are soft, sensitive, and sentimental inside, especially when faced with indecency. They are always prepared for difficulties and trials. They fear no work and can be employed anywhere. Usually, they go unnoticed, quietly and calmly doing their duty, but the moment the affairs of the enterprise falter, the Capricorn steps forward, sorts everything out, finds an unexpected solution to the usual situation, a new idea that saves everyone. Nothing achieved by them will be taken away—only ill health, though even in this case, Capricorns quickly restore their strength. Fortune does not favor their amusements, as they are very observant and love to criticize. They can be cold and arrogant toward idlers, demagogues, and braggarts. Generally, they are not envious but want others to appreciate them properly. They love money deeply, for they were born under the sign of longevity and fear an insecure old age. In childhood, they are prone to illness but can hope for a long life. They manage their wealth well but remain suspicious. They can be deceived only once or twice in early life, but afterward, this does not happen. In love, they are also sober and practical. Feelings must not interfere with their life path; if necessary, they suppress them so forcefully that it may seem as though they have become a completely different person. The experience of passion and selfless love comes quickly or never at all, after which only critical clarity remains, while emotions are buried deep inside—but they are there, and very strong. They enter into marriage for life, ready to forgive but often suspicious. If they find a suitable partner, the marriage will be unshakable. For a woman, children and their well-being come first; for a man, it is work. Duty always comes first. They raise their children soberly, on time-tested truths. Dangers: egoism, stubbornness, inflexibility, a tendency toward solitude. Weak constitution, a predisposition to digestive system and intestinal diseases, colds, poor nutrition, constipation, and melancholy.

You are a serious, disciplined, and moderately ambitious person. You have a desire to prove that you exist, that you know your worth, and a drive to achieve material success. Work and social standing are very important to you. To reach the goals you set for yourself, you overcome all difficulties, disappointments, and often sacrifice much in terms of personal relationships and family life. With a thoughtful, quiet, calm, and restrained nature, you are reluctant to show what you truly feel deep in your heart. It seems as though you manage to control events. You are a capable worker and a strong personality—the person on whose shoulders the greatest responsibility falls, whether in family or work (and most of the work). Even as a child, you possessed maturity, sobriety, and life wisdom, traits uncommon in children. Fundamentally, you are a pragmatist and a realist. Though you may have various dreams, ideals of perfect order, and vivid theories, you ultimately justify your concepts by their practical usefulness. You have natural cunning and business acumen—and a certain degree of cynicism. You believe you always think clearly, are independent in your thoughts, and objective in your judgments. Dramatic emotional details cannot distract you from your goals. Very often, you are a domineering, strictly just, but merciless person. Traditions are sacred to you, and even if you disagree with some laws, you will either submit to them or work toward changing them, but you will never allow them to be criminally neglected. Cautious and restrained, you play by the rules in any game. You are a calm, quiet person, an advocate of well-thought-out actions. You are not prone to impulsive, reckless deeds and do not express yourself fully. It is not easy to delve into your soul. You are modest and sometimes overly self-critical. It is difficult for you to allow yourself (or the people life brings you into contact with) to surrender to the whims of emotion, to indulge in play, or act as you please. You cannot enjoy mindlessly, be weak, or vulnerable. The strongest traits of your character are depth, precision, patience, tenacity, and loyalty to the commitments you undertake. Your flaws are a tendency toward conservatism, inflexibility, and excessive seriousness.
